Transition to phase 2

For Phase 1 of IS101-3003/5, I feel like it wasn’t my best work or effort. At the beginning, I was keeping up, but after a few weeks I started to feel overwhelmed with all the discussion assignments. If I could do it differently, I would try to stay ahead and use lab time more effectively so I can focus better and complete each part to the best of my ability. To prepare for the MO-110 Word certification exam, I completed the lab simulations and made sure to go back and redo the areas I didn’t feel confident in until I understood them well enough to move on.

For Discussion 4, I chose 4.9.4 Word Themes & Style Facts. There are many style features in Microsoft Word, like no spacing, heading styles, and theme changes, all of which affect how a document looks. For example, using the no spacing style removes extra space between paragraphs, making the document look cleaner and more organized. Word also offers different formatting and style options that allow you to quickly change colors and fonts without redoing everything. These features are useful whether you’re working on an essay, creating something like a birthday card, or even organizing a calendar. Overall, these tools help make documents more visually appealing and easier to manage.

  1. Hi Fatima, I like how honest you were about Phase 1, especially admitting that it wasn’t your best effort but still recognizing what you could improve. That feeling of getting overwhelmed is real, especially when everything starts stacking up at the same time, so it’s good that you reflected on time management. I also like how you explained the Word features, because those small things like spacing and styles really do make a big difference in how professional a document looks.

It sounds like you’re starting to understand not just how to use the tools, but why they matter, which is honestly the harder part. Going into Phase 2, I think that same mindset will help you a lot, especially since Excel relies more on logic and structure rather than just formatting. If you apply the same attention to detail you mentioned with Word, you’ll probably find Excel more manageable over time.

  2. Hi Fatima! I get how overwhelming this class can be, I'm trying to stay ahead or at least on time in this next phase. I like the visual parts of creating a document it's very appealing to explore and to learn about. So Words Themes & Styles are something I tend to prioritize in my mind.

  3. Hi Fatima! Going back and redoing the LabSim parts you weren’t confident in is actually a really good way to prepare for MO-110, so that’s a solid approach.

  4. Hello Fatima, Word Themes was a great option to point out in my opinion. I believe using those options makes papers look very professional in little to no effort and being able to use such an avenue is great to handle things in a timely manner.

  5. Hey Fatima, going back to the work is the right strategy and is the strategy I use when I don't understand something. Redoing the practice exams actually saved me from being overwhelmed because it keeps me from forgetting the material. Have a great rest of the semester!

  6. Hi Fatima, I like how you are reflecting on how you did in Phase 1. I also fell behind on the work from class because I didn’t start on them right when they opened during the week before school started. What helped me catch up is giving myself a goal on what assignments to accomplish every week. This helps me by giving me a better idea of how much work that I want to get done. This also helps me stay ahead on my assignments. Using this strategy might help you as well.

  7. Hello Fatima, falling behind is a very easy thing to do it's important to do what you can to stay ahead or at a steady pace to ensure that you can easily catch up. I love how themes can update font, colors and headings. After this class I want to attempt to make my own invitations for birthday parties.

  8. Hi Fatima, I know how it feels to be overwhelmed. I also was in the same position as you in phase 1. One piece of advice I can give you is to focus on what you can do and do it at your own speed without falling behind. Set a time management system to see what works best for you.

  9. Falling behind and feeling overwhelmed is just one part of life, not just part of school. What and how you do about it is what's important! Sounds like you already identified a better strategy :-)

You will do better in the later phases of IS101-3003, Spring 2026, Fatima ^_^

  10. Hello Fatima, I was the same I even avoided some assignments just because it all felt like too much and it was hard to keep up. Staying ahead really helps in this class it was nice that all our assignments were available to us since the beginning.

  11. Hi Fatima, I was also overwhelmed with the discussions, BQs, and other assignments from my other classes at first. It definitely takes time to execute and plan ahead so we don't fall behind.

  13. Hi Fatima, the good thing is that you’re already aware of what you want to change. Feeling overwhelmed happens to all of us, but what matters is taking action, and you’re clearly doing that. Keep going.

  15. I liked how you explained the different Word styles and themes. The no spacing feature honestly makes documents look way cleaner. I also relate to feeling overwhelmed sometimes with the discussions, but it’s good that you kept practicing the parts you weren’t confident in.

  16. The chapter you chose is actually one of the creative things that Word offers and I'm all here for it. Sometimes I wonder how people print out flyers for events and such. Now that I have an idea about what Word offers and what can it do, game changer overall. Professional and Personal settings needs a dash of sparkles and glitters once in a while.

  18. Hey Fatima, styles are great because we don't want to keep the same thing over and over, just like clothes we don't wear the same clothes outside everyday! Good choice choosing this.

  19. "Made sure to go back and redo the areas I didn’t feel confident in until I understood them well enough to move on." Is very relatable Fatima :) I also did the same things over and over again until I felt so confident and my brain instantly gets the light bulb effect within a millisecond of seeing a question similar to the lab simulation.

  20. Hello Fatima. Great pick with the LabSim section! One of the first things you see with a document is how it looks. It is very important to make it look appealing.
